Nintendo is throwing their new 3DS model at American shores shortly, the 3DS XL. In this case, the XL surname is well earned because the screen on the new handheld system is considerably larger than that of the old, useless, who-cares model of a few months ago. Yes, it improves the 3D effect, yes, it’s easier to play. What we really want to know is how well it deals with our collection of older games. Retro gamers like myself love us some backwards compatibility, and it’s great to see the 3DS XL offers the option. Shame, though, that the screen size is just off doubling the resolution, so the system has to resort to display tricks to make things work. The native resolution option is nice, though.
