Critical path is a video interview series with some of the most respected developers in gamerdom. They talk shop, they speak their minds. These are the people behind our little hobby and they create the experiences we share in digital space. Video games are about a lot more than pushing buttons. There’s art, there’s a rush, there’s a story to tell. Some devs do it for the money, even. The games industry is a vicious master, though, a dragon made of swords, and it impales those who can’t hold on. No matter why they grab that dragon, these people are in for the long ride. Critical Path explores why. Check it out. Rock, Paper, Shotgun has the story.
It’s easy to forget there are real people behind the graphics and the zombies we plow through in our unsated lust for new pleasures. People who devote years of their lives to what, for us, is a week or two of gaming amusement. That’s a huge amount of time dilation. What possesses a person to give so much, for something that’s just a brief spark in the darkness?
I am totally listening to this right now.
