The slow decline of the economy continues to drag down gaming, as video game sales dropped another 20% through July. Hardware sales like consoles were particularly sluggish, likely because everyone already has all the gaming systems they’re going to buy. Only Nintendo’s 3DS portable system held its ground. Although predictions still see slow sales in the future, the upcoming next-gen consoles like the Wii U are expected to help jump-start the market. GamesIndustry has the story.
It’s a slow month for gaming in a slow economy. Combine that with the end of the current console generation, and there really isn’t much for people to buy. The big name games are holding out for later in the year, or for the next generation.
