A series of reports on the video games industry has concluding that gaming will be growing, swelling up to something like 82-billion human dollars in the next five years. Although gaming sales are down right now, that seems due mostly to slow sales of console hardware. Next-gen consoles like the Wii U should solve that problem and fuel a new boost to gaming sales. By way of comparison, the movie industry in the USA topped out at around 35-billion according to public figures. Forbes has the story.
So how many industries out there are worth better than 80-billion? Gaming seems to be becoming something of an important economic sector, wouldn’t you say? I guess there is money in rescuing the princess.
Good, because I keep seeing negative sales projections all summer for video games — particularly retail (although cloud/digital is fairly above water.) It’s a ridiculously powerful industry, so when motion on that ocean happens the tidal swells have real height.
