Terrible things happen in the real world on a regular basis. Some of those terrible things happen close to home. When they do, the media reels in a wild arc searching for a scapegoat, some simple enemy of the people they can pin with all of society’s ills, the obvious cause of something beyond the scope of human understanding. Gaming is often the target. Recent terrible events in Colorado have set the media reeling once again, and now Fox News is trying to target gaming. How should our little hobby respond to such accusations? GamesIndustry has the story.
Gaming is targeted because those most prone to fear in our society, the old and the isolated, know nothing about gaming. It’s something the kids do, and who can understand kids these days?
Of course, kids these days are pushing 40, themselves.
As gaming and gamers mature, these attacks will fade, and some new banner will be waved to frighten and rally the fearful.
