The game is NBA Baller Beats, a rhythm game that prompts the player to bounce a very real basketball to the music. The Kinect system tracks the player and the ball. If there’s one lesson we should have all learned from the Wii, it’s that gamers are uncoordinated beasts who can destroy their TV with an errant gesture. Giving them a large, heavy sphere to throw around seems unwise. USA Today has the story.
While the idea of using another object to help play the game is a good one, and tracking it with the Kinect system is a great use of the technology, the real breakdown here is that anything you put in a player’s hand is going to end up flying across the room. This will not end well, at all.
Even the best of the hoopsters can not perfect this game. How will you bounce the ball to the beat of U2’s Bullet the Blue Sky beat? PM if there is anyone who can do it?
