One of the technologies that will define the future is 3D printing, that is, machines that can just build whatever you need out of raw materials. These machines are becoming smaller, cheaper, and more capable every year. As an example of how this technology is growing, we have something small. Tiny model cars with working parts and spinning wheels. There’s a video, too. Boing Boing has the story.
If you’re curious about why this whole 3D printing thing is a big deal, look up the comic Transmetropolitan and the “maker” technology featured therein. Also, Star Trek replicators. What could you do with a factory that builds anything?
