The Wii U is Nintendo’s upcoming next-gen console, set to compete against the best of Microsoft and Sony. However, a question has been nagging at the hype around the Wii U, and it’s not, “my god what is that thing.” It’s a question of power, will the Wii U be able to run the same games as the other next-gen systems? Will developers be able to port their games to the Wii U without a problem? So far, Nintendo seems to be answering with a strong maybe. GamesRadar has the story.
Cross-platform compatibility is a huge thing for developers. Making a game for the Wii was like making a game all over again, and just for that one console system. Most developers didn’t bother, and those who did had to cut down their game in size, graphics, and scope. Take a look at War for Cybertron, the excellent Transformers action game on Xbox and the PlayStation. On the Wii, it’s a cartoon rail shooter.
If the Wii U can’t handle modern games, whatever modern means to the next-gen, that will be a big strike against Nintendo.
