One day, back in the mists of time, there was a Flash game that took the characters from old Nintendo titles and let them bang around inside Super Mario Bros. It was good, and fun, and charming, but a game like that could never make any money because of copyright concerns. So they rebuilt it into Super Retro Squad, and put it on Kickstarter. Now, everyone can get in on the fun. You should, too. Joystiq has the story.
That’s the joy of retro gaming, it’s all so simple that a small studio, or even just one person, can build a proper retro game in their spare time. I think we’ll see a surge of retro-style games in the next few years. Should be fun.
