At least, that’s what they’re calling it. Of the 1.7 million players at the peak of SWTOR’s rise, the sci-fi MMORPG is down to a mere 1.3 million. While over a million subscribers is nothing to turn down, the sudden drop in the playerbase does concern BioWare and EA. The present idea is that many players are finishing out their included 30 days of game time and not subscribing. The subtext is they’re running out of content to play before that month’s up. Gamasutra has the story.
In a very story-driven game like The Old Republic, one does have to wonder about what happens when the story’s done? Although each class has its own storyline, only a relative few players tend to experiment with new classes once they’ve chosen their starter character.
Also, I still miss Galaxies.
