Video games are killing the toy market. It’s not a battle, video games are straight up murdering toys in a dark alley and stealing away into the night with a handful of fresh spleen. Paul Reiche, creator of the new game, Skylanders, is doing something about that. Toys and video games don’t have to fight. Toys have a power in their physicality, you can hold them in your hand. Video games have a power in their unreality, they can bring a toy to life. Here’s a discussion with Paul on the nature of toys, video games, and Skylanders. Kotaku has the story.
As a child of the 80s, I’d love to see Skylanders technology in Transformer toys, bound to a game series from the War for Cybertron crew.
