Rock Band is leaving the iOS platform because EA’s deal with Rock Band developer Harmonix is coming to a close. The end result for gamers is that they won’t be able to purchase new songs through the App store, or re-download any songs that are deleted. Although this part is unclear, it might even shut down the ability to play online with friends (you know, that whole Rock Band thing) Players can save their songs by backing them up to the iCloud service, if that’s something they’re into. Eurogamer has the story.
This event helps to illustrate one of the problems with downloaded games and game services. If something changes between the companies involved, it’s entirely possible to wake up one day and discover your games have been deleted, shut down, shuffled to another service, or locked up.
Isn’t it nice to buy a game and not own it?
