In an announcement that has been a console generation in coming, Nintendo has finally decided to unify user accounts across their gaming systems. At least, their eStore accounts for digital downloads. The change will come with the Wii U and 3DS, and the account will be portable instead of being locked to any one machine. Now only if they’d give us proper unified accounts for matchmaking, we’d almost be at the level of basic online service. Nintendo World Report has the story.
I really don’t understand Nintendo. They did right by giving gamers full internet access on the Wii with a built-in web browser. That’s good. They didn’t have a decent way to do online matchmaking, with an online console. That’s bad. It’s rather amazing how Nintendo can’t seem to wrap their collective head around this whole online gaming thing.
