The world is not kind to hack-and-slash MMOs, and with less than a year under its belt, Ninety-Nine Nights falls victim to the cruel fates. Q Entertainment has announced the MMO will be shut down at the end of September. While NNNO was a decent enough game, it didn’t bring anything to table you couldn’t get from the competition, notably Rusty Hearts. Lorehound has the story.
The brawler MMO seems a pretty common genre these days, and every new game has to put its own spin on the concept to stay relevant. Without a good hook beyond “find monster, beat up monster,” any game is doomed. Maybe Ninety-Nine Nights Online should have had more novelty hats and costume choices.
