Microsoft’s motion control system, the Kinect, has been a resounding success. The power of motion control isn’t that it makes games easier or better, but that it allows someone to do all sorts of non-gaming things with a wave of their hand. Like, watch movies, or buy things off the company store. Now, hardware developers are looking to bring the concept of motion control to the PC. You know, that thing with the keyboard and mouse. That you use from two feet away. CVG has the story.
Motion control is interesting for PC gaming, largely because of MMOs. One of the biggest problems with socializing in MMOs is that your character is a stiff brick of a puppet, while people themselves are programmed to read body language. Motion control could give body language to our gaming avatars, allowing them to interact in a much more natural way.
