May 8, 2020, will mark the 75th anniversary of Victory in Europe Day, the date signifies the surrender of Nazi forces to the Allies and the essential end of World War II.
To commemorate this event, Wargaming’s World of Warships will celebrate with a virtual Navy parade on May 6 at 12:00pm EST/9:00am PST in a livestream on the company’s official Twitch channel. During that time, players will set aside their naval battles in game and show off their seagoing vessels.
Due to the ongoing pandemic of COVID-19, real-world productions of VE day have been canceled. As a result, numerous would-be anniversary celebrants find themselves without a way to participate. This virtual version hosted by Wargaming will work as a stand-in for people who need to stay home to stay safe.
The parade will also feature commentary from New York Times bestselling author and naval historian, James D. Hornfischer.
He will be joined by World of Warships influencers The Mighty Jingles, Drachinifel and Wargaming’s very own Chieftain.
The Wargaming crew intend to parade each of the virtual ships and speak to their historical relevance to WWII and accolades achieved during wartime.
World of Warships also intends to provide randomized prize drops for players during the event, with the company gifting permanent VE-related camouflages and skins for ships.
