The game company 2K has made a name for itself in recent times with a stable of hit games and game worlds. Chances are good you can look over your collection and come up with a few 2K titles. Christoph Hartmann is the head of 2K Games, and he’s ready to talk about the business and where consoles are heading in the future. Check it out. GamesIndustry has the story.
The big takeaway from this interview is that it’s hard for game developers to make solid moves at the end of a console generation. No one wants to bet their company on a console system that could be obsolete by the time their game comes out. On the other hand, no one wants to bet their company on an untested console system, as well. It’s entirely possible that any given next-gen console won’t measure up. Then there’s the third hand, where the game company has to produce something just to keep the money flowing. Where should they place their bets?
This is why the video game industry is a valley of madness.
