Online gaming has one interesting feature that not too many people think about, and that’s the ability to track what players do in the game. Take a few million players, playing a game a couple times each, and you get a rather big pile of data on how people play the game. The Walking Dead is a game built around choices, and the results of those choices are tracked. Check out this video showing how the choices broke down for people playing The Walking Dead: Episode 2. Here be spoilers. Kotaku has the story.
Stat tracking is a great way to tell just what people are thinking as they go through your game, or at least, what they’re willing to do. The choices in The Walking Dead are harsh, but their starkness is designed to force players to confront issues directly. Seeing how that all breaks down across millions of playthroughs is fascinating stuff.
