Cryptogame developer Blockade Games, the developer of the upcoming cyberpunk RPG game Neon District, has published the first story about its game on Amazon.com as an ebook and paperback.
As part of the pre-launch for Neon District, which has a planned launch for Jan. 27, Blockade Games wrote an extensive backstory about the cyberpunk dystopia in the game called Neon District: The Future. Edited.
This story acts as the first book in the series about the game and covers 77 pages of content. Much of this has already been published by Blockade Games over the months, but now it’s been compiled all in one place for easy reading. All this for a price tag of $5.99.
“The story behind Neon District, Unity, and all the unsavory characters in between was published as weekly episodes. This short story narrative acts as a spyglass into this post-apocalyptic world,” said Blockade Games.
The book covers five chapters written by Christopher Chapman, Andrea McGinty, and David Smith. The tale introduces storylines and plots for the core characters of the game as well as the general setting, which will carry players when the game launches.
Neon District belongs to a special category of games known as cryptogames, which combine blockchain technology – a distributed cryptographic ledger technology capable of allowing users to own their own in-game assets – with gameplay.
People who sign up for Neon District will not only be able to play this post-apocalyptic cyberpunk game but will also be able to earn and own their own equipment and characters. Assets in the game will be represented as tokens on the Ethereum network and be tradable between players.
Similar games, such as Gods Unchained, have seen blockchain-enabled virtual trading cards sold for as much as $31,000.
Neon District is still awaiting its launch date on Jan. 27 and signups are currently available on the website and it is possible to add Season One to a wish list on Steam.
