So that terrible lie about BioWare banning people from Star Wars: The Old Republic because they were doing things they were perfectly allowed to do in places they were perfectly allowed to go? Turns out, it wasn’t a lie. BioWare has been taking corrective action against players who were figuring out how to dodge content and farm high-level loot. Or, as we call it in WoW, “solo raiding.” Considering this sort of thing has been part of the MMORPG landscape for longer than many MMORPG players have been alive, the player reaction has been almost entirely negative. It doesn’t take much to topple a newborn MMO, so confusing and enraging a Twitter-capable playerbase probably isn’t the best decision BioWare could be making. Eurogamer has the story.
Seems to me, if you don’t want players doing a thing, maybe you should hotfix it so they can’t do that thing? Or at least, not do it as often?
