Video games are a challenge, but they’re also a story-telling medium. The stories we’re telling through our games often enough contain some heavy themes. Sexuality, gender roles, suffering, love, politics, sheep, and occasionally even violence. Because the medium of telling stories through games is so new, our approach to these subjects is direct, fumbling. We haven’t yet evolved a proper language to say the things we need to say in games. Things need to be said, and sacred taboos must be trod upon, but how to do it in a way that will reach your audience? After all, we live in a society where people giggle like children over any sensitive topic. Are games the answer?
