Recently, games and software downloaded through Apple’s App Store have come down with horrible crash bugs that prevented the apps from running. It appears the reason these apps were crashing was FairPlay, Apple’s DRM system. For whatever reason, FairPlay wouldn’t recognize the app or would run improperly when the app was launched. The result was a crash immediately on startup. Some users have also reported data loss. Over 70 apps were affected by the issue, including Angry Birds Space. The Guardian has the story.
Once again, DRM proves itself to be a hassle for the legit user. I wonder when people will realize that DRM is an attack on the paying customer and avoid products that use it?
