I’ve never seen a gaming service ship this broken outside an MMORPG launch. Call of Duty’s Elite service was meant to be a stat-tracking and social hub, set loose into the world along with the new Modern Warfare 3 game. It failed. It failed hard, and continues to fail. Activision blames the sheer number of users overloading servers, as well as a race to upgrade security and sanity checks in the wake of the community’s tendency to cheat like mad bastards. Gamasutra has the story.
Maybe Activision could use some of that 700+ millions the game has pulled in to fix their systems. I don’t know, buy a server or two, hire another guy to watch the stats for weird stuff, that sort of thing. What did they expect?
