Guild Wars 2 is almost upon us, so what better time to sit down with ArenaNet content designer Mike Zadorojny and talk shop about this latest MMORPG? In this interview, Mike talks about the countdown to launch, console ports of MMO games, and the strange territory of subscription models in the modern age of free-to-play. VentureBeat has the story.
Consoles are powerful enough to handle an MMO, the real difficulty isn’t in designing for console systems, but dealing with the logistics of such a large game. MMOs tend to need constant patching, either for content or to clear bugs, and the console paradigm is about as anti-patch as you can get. Until console makers allow MMOs to feed a steady stream of updates to their players, the console MMO will remain a rarity.
