ArenaNet announced the fifth expansion to Guild Wars 2 today with the upcoming Janthir Wilds, which arrives on August 20, much to the delight of the player base, and with the announcement came a number of details of what they can expect.

According to the game developer and studio, players can expect all new storylines, new maps, and a continuing adventure with the Astral Ward – originally featured in the previous expansion – as well as new allies. There will also be a new weapon, the spear brought up from the water, and account-wide player housing.

Although GW2 already has “housing,” in every major city by way of home instances, it’s not exactly like having a home because it can’t be customized. In the announcement, the developers stated that these account-wide “personal instances,” will have a “structure and land for you to decorate and cultivate” called a Homestead. It will be unlocked through a mastery track with access to nodes and unlockable resources from the personal story home instance.

Of course, as already teased by the studio: spears are coming to land. A new weapon type is coming to players that will now be both an aquatic and terrestrial weapon. Although spears can be used on land now, the terrestrial spear slot is separate from the aquatic one, meaning that a separate spear must be equipped in that slot from the aquatic one.

A new raid wing is expected for release sometime in November, comprising three encounters. The studio also added that they are working on a new player-vs-player mode, including new map mechanics based on player feedback.

For mount lovers, the warclaw, a mount originally World vs. World-only, is coming to PvE maps and it is also getting new skins in a mount pack. It’s WvW skills are also being revisited to address how it worked since the mounts were first released.

Also, for the first time since GW2 was released on a different platform, which was Steam in August 2022, it will be joining other games in the Epic Games Store later this summer.
