A city of dark doom, lying on the western edge of the cursed land of Mordor, Minas Morgul beckons to adventurers in the most recent expansion to launch for Lord of the Rings Online.
In the Minas Morgul expansion, the team at Standing Stone Games will add two new regions, increase the level cap to 130, add new Crafting Guild benefits, and a new Black Book of Mordor Quests.
Minas Morgul will take players on an expedition deep into the Morgul Vale, which is shrouded in a mystery that spans over three thousand years. Players will follow a tale spun by the shade of Isildur and reveal secrets and visions from the Second Age.
Aside from additional regions to explore, players will get a chance to face Shelob, the demon giant spider, included amidst seven new three-person and six-person instances. Shelob is described as “one of the Morgul Vale’s most notorious residents,” and will be featured in a 12 person raid.
When buying the expansion, players can expect over 250 new quests, seven new instances and a new race of dwarves called the Stout-axe Dwarves. Players will also receive an extra character slot for their dwarf (should they choose to roll one).
The Stout-axe Dwarves come with their own unique racial abilities, introduction and animations.
Minas Morgul is a pale fortress built upon the site of Minas Ithil, a once beautiful, resplendent city constructed by Isildur near the mountainous border of Mordor.
When the Nazgûl returned to Mordor, they laid siege to the city and took it for their cruel master, Sauron. Upon becoming occupied by fell creatures, the local people came to call the city “Minas Morgul,” which in the tongue of Gondor means “Tower of Dark Sorcery.”
“Not the imprisoned moonlight welling through the marble walls of Minas Ithil long ago, Tower of the Moon, fair and radiant in the hollow of the hills. Paler indeed than the moon ailing in some slow eclipse was the light of it now, wavering and blowing like a noisome exhalation of decay, a corpse-light, a light that illuminated nothing.“
“The Stairs of Cirith Ungol,” The Two Towers, JRR Tokien.
This the city has loomed, crawling with all manner of evil and aberrant monsters, for thousands of years. It is also the birthplace of the Uruk-hai, a fell race of orcs bred during the Third Age who then assailed and overran Ithilien.
The standard edition of this expansion has a price tag of $39.99 with two other editions, Collector’s and the Ultimate Fan Bundle, for $79.99 and $129.99 respectively.
