Binary Domain is a squad-based shooter game with robots that isn’t Mass Effect 3, which is why you haven’t heard of it. Also, much like Mass Effect 3, it makes use of voice controls for your squaddies and your various interactions with the characters about the world. So how does it all work out? The California Literary Review has the story.
Of course the California Literary Review will offer an in-depth discussion of a cover-based Xbox shooter. That’s art right there, lemme tell you.
It would be nice if an infinitely-amazing narrative and plot story would also have a working video game mechanic. Sure, it can be a movie all it wants; it just needs to be playable as well. I’m the type who ends up turning on godmode when I cannot play a game at all; but then I also want to see the story.
If the narrative is good enough, that’s more than enough reason for me to keep playing (even if it’s a little challenging) but if the game is untoward and broken, I give up on the game, and go for the movie.
