It had to happen sometime. Recently, a company by the name of Amuse Me has taken recycling video game assets to a new level with a service that allows people to order custom games with their own graphics, sounds, and details. The service comes in three levels, the first being cheap enough, but the others costing somewhere between a car and a house. It probably runs on the Unreal 3 engine. The New York Times has the story.
I wonder if there’s some kind of community effort out there to build all the mechanics of various video games in Flash, say, and then share those around so anyone can mix and match to build their own custom games on the fly. That would be neat. I could bring back Privateer for modern computers.
